The Tourist (December 10, 2010)

The Tourist is a 2010 thriller/romance film directed by Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck, starring Angelina Jolie and Johnny Depp. It is a remake of the 2005 French action film Anthony Zimmer. After a very public slow start, The Tourist went on to gross US$ 258 million worldwide. The film was nominated for three Golden Globes, with a debate arising over the question if it was a comedy or a drama. Donnersmarck repeatedly stated it was neither genre, calling it a travel romance with thriller elements, but that if he had to choose between the two, he would choose comedy.

Box Office:

The Tourist opened at $16,472,458 on its first weekend at #2 spot behind The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage Of The Dawn Treader. It has grossed more than four times of its first weekend profits. The film has grossed $67,276,023 domestically and $183,800,000 internationally for a total of $258,631,157 worldwide. After its run, it will be Angelina Jolie's fourth most successful film (after Salt, Wanted and Mr. & Mrs. Smith), outgrossing Gone in 60 Seconds, The Bone Collector, the Lara Croft series and every other non-animated film she has starred in. It ranks as Johnny Depp's most successful film after the Pirates Of The Caribbean series, Alice in Wonderland and Charlie And The Chocolate Factory, easily beating Sleepy Hollow and Public Enemies, nearly doubling the gross of Chocolat and Sweeney Todd and more than doubling the gross of Donnie Brasco.
